Hello Mariposas, I'm Kenia, the founder of Broken Mariposas Fly. Our journey began when I married my high school sweetheart, Andres in 2001. Like any newlyweds, we had hopes and dreams of starting a family. Unfortunately, after years of trying to conceive, we experienced heartbreak when our baby girl, Andrea, passed away an hour after she was born on December 14th, 2013. To cope with my grief, I turned to my passion of jewelry-making and started creating bracelets. This eventually led me to turn my hobby into what Broken Mariposas Fly is today, a way to support other grieving mothers by creating care packages with a portion of our sales. While our journey started with brokenness, it has given us a purpose that honors our daughter Andrea’s memory.
Our name, "Broken Mariposas Fly," has a profound meaning. While visiting Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden in Miami after the loss of our dear Andrea, a blue Morpho butterfly with a broken wing landed on me, bringing tears to my eyes. This encounter was a heavenly sign, reminding me that although a part of me will always be broken after losing my child, like the butterfly, I too would fly.
After every storm, God promises rainbows. Our family was blessed with the arrival of Emma, our rainbow baby and Andrea's little sister on July 20, 2017. After waiting for 16 long years, her arrival was nothing short of a miracle. Now, as parents, we cherish every moment and milestone with our precious daughter. Through our faith-based business, we strive to share our journey of both joy and grief, offering hope and inspiration to others. We pray that our story of faith, love, hope, forgiveness, and perseverance encourages you, my beautiful Mariposas, to believe in your own ability to fly.
